Every Chinese, who experienced 1980s, will remember forever the day November 6th 1981 when the China National Women's Volleyball Team defeated the Japan National Team (the so-called “Toyo Women Magic”) with 3 to 2 at the 3rd World Women's Volleyball Cup in Osaka Japan. That's the first world title for China Women's Volleyball Team. Everyone was shocked by this news. At that time, China had just been out of the “Cultural Revolution”. When the news was broadcasted, people burst into joyful tears.

Their victory was the result of all the former volleyball players' effort. In 1965,a famous coach of Japan was invited to China to help train the China National Women's Volleyball Team. Seeing both the players' conscientious and spirit and the support from the Chinese people, he exclaimed, “I'm sure that the China National Women's Volleyball Team will become strong!”

In 1982, the China National Women's Volleyball Team won the gold medal again at the World Women's Volleyball Championships in Peru under the leadership of Yuan Weimin.

In August 1984, the China National Women's Volleyball Team defeated successively the Japan National Team and the US National Team with 3 to 0, and won the gold medal again at the 23rd Olympic Games, which realized the “Triple Crown” dream at the world matches. The pride head coach of Japan National Team said, “Defeating China National Team is equal to block the Yangtze River. Both are impossible.” The American coach said, “I hope our children will play basketball as well as the Chinese girls.”

The elder players gradually retired after 1985. Then Lang Ping, the World No.1 Spiker at that time, was named the captain. She and her teammates went to Japan to join in the 4th World Cup, and won the title for the 4th time without losing any match.

Two years later, the China National Women's Volleyball Team came to the 14th World Women's Volleyball Team Championships. Though the famous players, such as the “Iron Girl” Cao Huiying, the “Iron Hammer” Lang Ping, the “Wall of Tian An Men Rostrum” Zhou Xiaolan, and the “Quick Attacker” Zhang Rongfang, had retired, the Chinese girls still won the gold medal by their strength and wisdom. The “Penta Crown” shocked the world. What a miracle!

The “Penta Crown” is not only a great honor, but also an ever spur. It has become the spirit of the China National Women's Volleyball Team. At present, the China National Women's Volleyball Team has become a symbol of striving and competing in Chinese people's hearts.

As the fast development of other countries' volleyball career, the China National Women's Volleyball Team had lost parts of their advantages for a period. In early 1995, Lang Ping, the former core player of the “Penta Crown” team, became the head coach of the Chinese National Team. Though it's very hard to train these young players in such a short time, she made it. The China National Women's Volleyball Team won the bronze medals at the 7th World Cups at the end of 1995. Then they won the silver medals at the Atlanta Olympic Games in , and the gold medals at the 13th Asian Games in . The China National Women's Volleyball Team became the No.1 in Asian again. What's more, they made a greater miracle at the Athens Olympic Games in . These young girls defeated the rival in a very disadvantaged situation and won the gold medals finally, which were the bestaffirmation for their previous hard work.

Along with Reform and Opening up Policy's carrying on and the Spirit of the National Women's Volleyball Team, volleyball had spread in all parts of China. You can find people playing volleyball everywhere, not only in the residential areas and the countryside, but also in schools and factories. The Beijing Olympic Games render a nationwide movement of body-building in China. Meanwhile, it serves more chances for the sports events development including the volleyball in China.

Henan has a humid warm-temperate climate. Dry and windy in winter and spring, the province is hot and rainy in summer and bakes in strong sunlight during the autumn months. Rainfall averages about 600-1000 millimeters increasing from north to south, as does the annual temperature which increases from about 12.8C in the north to 15.5C in the south.

Henan province is considered the cradle of Chinese civilization due to its location on the Yellow River. This rich historic heritage has endowed Henan with numerous historic treasures, from primitive dwellings to earliest wheel thrown pottery. The remains of some of the earliest human settlements have been unearthed here, including the over 7000-year-old Peiligang Culture Site, the 6000-year-old Yangshao Culture Remains and the 5000-year-old Dahe Culture Remains. All these cultural remains have profound significance in the history of Chinese civilization.

Luoyang City has been the capital of nine dynasties since the time of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770BC-221BC). There are many historical sites to be viewed in Luoyang as well as the opportunity to purchase replicas of the famed Tang three-glaze horses. Luoyang's Longmen Grottoes, famous for its grand treasure trove of Chinese Buddhist statues, are located 12km (7 miles) south of Luoyang. First sculpted and chiseled around 493 AD when the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) was moved from Datong City to Luoyang, the grottoes of Luoyang house an awe-inspiring collection of sculpted Buddha and other religious subjects.

Kaifeng, one of the ancient capitals, also boasts the following buildings worthy of a visit: Iron Pagoda (Tie Ta) of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), Dragon Pavilion (Long Ting) - site of imperial palace of the Song and Jin dynasties - and the 1400-year-old Xiangguo Temple which is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in China. Also on view in Kaifeng are ruins of the Shang Dynasty, an important part of human cultural and historic heritage. The Shang Dynasty Ruins, also known as the 'Yin Ruins', are famous because of the unique style of the large palace and its grand mausoleums, in which emperors of the Shang Dynasty are buried. The bronze vessels of the Shang Dynasty, which were both finely decorated and popularly used by the citizens of the Shang Dynasty, are well-known at home and abroad.

(1) 考试对象为在普通高校内部四年制或以上根据教育大纲修完大学英语四级的本科生;

(2) 同等程度的大专生或硕士研究生经所在学校同意,可在本校报名参加考试;

(3) 同等程度的夜大或函授大学学生经所在学校同意,可在本校报名参加考试;

1.learn with your body。

2.learn language to communicate。

3.learn Englishi as information。

The Spring Festival is not only means the beginning of the brand-new year, but also carrying the best wish of the people’s. We are hoping in the New Year our wish will come true, our life will become better. Anyway, the most meaningful thing of the Spring Festival is that we spend the time with the family, the people we love and we know that’s all about.

When you ask the people around you, what is the most important festival in China, I guess 99% of the people will say the same answer, the Spring Festival. There is an old story about Spring Festival. It is said that the monster, named Nian, will attack people from time to time. In order to drive it away, people have to light up firecrackers and put some Red paper on the front door and window at the last day of the Chinese year. Luckily, the monster, Nian, is afraid of the sound of the firecrackers and the color red; dare not to come any more. In order to memorialize this day, our ancestors decided that the first lunar calendar day of the Chinese Year is the Spring Festival.

During the Spring Festival, all the member of the family will get together on the eve to have a big dinner. Fish, apple, noodle, dumplings, poke, chicken, candies and so on are indispensable on the table. Fish stands for wealth and rich of the coming year, apple stands for doing things smoothly, noodle stands for good health and long live, as to the others, they all symbolize for the lucky and happiness of the coming year.

Children are the happiest ones during the Spring Festival, not only they can have lots of companies but also they can have lucky money on the festival. With the lucky money, they can do whatever they want, such as to set off the firecrackers, wear new clothes, use their lucky money to buy the things they want; this is the best part of the Spring Festival, isn’t it?

The Spring Festival is not only means the beginning of the brand-new year, but also carrying the best wish of the people’s. We are hoping in the New Year our wish will come true, our life will become better. Anyway, the most meaningful thing of the Spring Festival is that we spend the time with the family, the people we love and we know that’s all about.

Before, I was a very timid girl. Timid to be afraid of mice, cowardice to dare not to sleep alone, cowardly to dare not to stand high, dare not to leave their parents.

Before I was five years old, my father used to take me to climb the west rock mountain. But every time, I was bouncing back and down. Not until I was five years old. It's not easy to have my summer vacation. I'm so excited. Because I can sleep until ten o 'clock. The next morning, my father pulled me out of my date with zhou, and “ordered” me to put on my clothes and put on my sneakers. I was confused and dragged to the foot of the mountain by my father.

“Ah? Dad, don't you, want to climb again?” “That's not, otherwise, when your fear of heights will be cured?” Although, my heart is very, very, and particularly reluctant, but I don't want to dad home to practice the “top ten torture” to me, had to crustily skin of head, hold my dad's hand and cascaded to climb. As the steps of the mountain were gentle, we were halfway up the hill. At this time, there appeared a temple in front of me, this is countless times is the place where I stand hard and retreat. In front of the temple gate stood a tall and steep staircase. I can't help but look up, my god, the two stone lions at the top are still showing the teeth of “scare” me! My father saw my fear, and used the law of tempion: “how is it? I knew you were so worthless that I would not bring you here.” It worked, and I was taken by my father: “who says I can't climb up? Today, let's take a look at your baby girl's true skill.

Some people prefer to plan activities for their free time very carefully. Others choose not to make any plans at all for their free time. Compare the benefits of planning free-time activities with the benefits of not making plans. Which do you prefer?―planning or not planning for your leisure time? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your choice.

I think that free time is a precious thing for most of us. When we’re working hard, it’s nice to imagine what we’ll do when the weekend comes. We juggle one idea with another, trying to decide what best suits our budget and the amount of time we have. After all, anticipating free time is part of the pleasure.

It’s good to plan what we’re going to do with our free time. That way we won’t waste any of it trying to decide. It’s so easy to just sit around and think about this or that activity. Before we know it, half the day is gone. If we decide ahead of time, We can get started in plenty of time, and we can get the most benefit out of the time we have. For instance, if we’re going on a picnic, we can get all our supplies ready to go. Or if we’re going to a movie, we can find out the time and how long it’ll take us to get there. Also, if we plan what we’re going to do with our free time, we can invite others to join us. If we wait until the last minute, our friends may have other plans.

On the other hand, it’s also fun sometimes to do things without a plan. We can just leave the house and walk around and see what catches our attention. Often, this is how we discover places we never knew existed. We might end up doing something we never thought we’d try. We might just happen to find ourselves outside a new bookstore or a bowling alley and go in on a whim, because we have some free time.

It’s nice if we can have the best of both worlds. We can plan our free time activities for one day of the weekend, and let the other day plan itself. This way our free time also gives us the enjoyment of having it both ways.

this applicant shows that her interest in public interest law flows naturally from her volunteer activities and life eperiences. when you finish this essay, do you have a sense of unity and completion? she tied her conclusion both to the highlights of the body and her lead.

the last thing i remember is falling asleep during a late night rerun of the twilight zone. so when it happened, it was especially eerie, like i had stepped into a lost episode, but rod serling was nowhere in sight; for moment, neither was anybody else. at 4:31 am a merciless shove pushed me off my bed. i crawled on the floor, trying to escape the cruel, uncontrollable shaking, but it followed me. it followed me down the stairs and underneath the dining room table where my family joined me. little did i realize that before the morning sun rose again, i would see everything differently.

my world changed. the 6.7 earthquake which crippled the northridge area on january 17, 1994 rattled and ripped apart the fibers of security in our neighborhood. our home was ruined; smashed glass, crumbled walls, and the lack of electricity, gas, and water made it uninhabitable. without basic utilities, we slept and lived in our car for nine days while guarding our home from looters.

the damage was everywhere. a personal landmark, the granada hills kaiser permanente medical center, collapsed. the site where i had volunteered as a teen advisor 鈥?lobbying for and improving the quality of the teen health clinic while working one- on-one with underprivileged, problem teenagers 鈥?no longer eisted. only an empty lot and the memory of a valuable and productive medical and psychological outreach program for troubled youth remained.

as much as northridge and its surrounding regions changed eternally, so did the lives of the victims internally. following this traumatic eperience, i developed a keen awareness of the fragility of life and a newly restored appreciating for the simplest of my old comforts. as vulnerable and edgy as i was with every aftershock that rolled through the area, i consoled myself with reminders of how we were spared.

with a profound sense of gratitude for our relative good fortune, within weeks of the initial quake i volunteered at the american red cross earthquake relief center.

as my family and i rebuilt our home and our lives, i translated for iranian earthquake victims and performed various clerical tasks. yet, my most valuable contribution to the earthquake relief team stemmed from the moral support i was qualified to provide. with my earthquake eperience, i was able to comfort the teary-eyed victims who approached us for help. i gave them the hope and understanding they sought from a primarily out-of-state staff. i benefited too: my work for the red cross aroused my curiosity in public interest law.

i had the opportunity to eplore this new interest in the summer when i interned in washington d.c. for congressman howard p. (buck) smith of california. that summer i was responsible for attending meetings and informing the congressmans staff of the issues discussed. one of the issues i followed dealt with a proposed guideline to prohibit religious epression in the workplace due to its allegedly offensive nature. defining such acts as wearing a star of david or praying silently before a meal as religious harassment, the bill attempted to equate these acts with verbal or seual harassment.

still the most fulfilling eperience of my internship was serving the mr. smiths constituents when they wrote, called, or visited our washington office. their concerns covered many issues, including city maintenance and the enforcement of fcc regulations on local radio stations; yet, most cries for help grew out of the january 17 disaster.

my eperience in the earthquake proved to be useful in my internship. after all, i was working with mr. earthquake himself. as the only intern from northridge, i was assigned to the earthquake project. i acted as a liaison between constituents and the small business administration, federal emergency management agency, and other governmental agencies that handled quake reconstruction monies. because of my eperience, i was again able to empathize with victims in a way that neither the staff nor the other interns could. as a result of my work, i gained a more profound grasp of the legal process and how it was able to help northridge residents with their post earthquake problems.

the january 17 earthquake dramatically changed my world 鈥?both inside and out. in the red cross shelter and in congressman smiths office, my career ambitions took shape: public interest law grabbed me. now i want to help those who cannot purchase legal services, not only by providing the empathy gained during my own trying eperiences, but also by using the skills and knowledge i will acquire at the abc law school. with this preparation, i look forward to helping others escape their legal or bureaucratic twilight zones.

In this picture a man rudely opens a garbage can and violently throws all kinds of waste into it. however, the box is not an ordinary trash can, but is, as a matter of fact, the earth. it is where survive, breed, and prosper. but as the drawing indicates, earth does not receive an equal repayment. quite the contrary, one of the biggest ”gifts" humans return to earth is an unbelievable amount of trash.the picture purposefully points out a kind of pollution that arouses little public attention, that is, garbage. the past century has witnessed an unprecedented increase in garbage output, most of it technological products that are difficult to be decomposed through natural processes, such as plastics and glass. furthermore, a recent report released that several major chinese cities are already surrounded by circles of trash in the suburban areas, polluting air, water, and earth.

Hence, the issue of waste pollution needs to be addressed as one of the priorities that demand social efforts. only through a holistic system of trash disposal can this problem be fully solved. moreover, we should advocate a more frugal lifestyle so as to reduce the growing scale of waste pollution.

Is It Meaningful to Receive College Education?

Given the fact that many college students have difficulties in finding jobs in the recent, thousands of high school students are reported to refuse to take the National College Entrance Examination. The news seems so convincing that many students, their parents, and the society reach the conclusion that receiving college education is a waste of time and money.Undoubtedly, these students can earn some money working in big cities or running their own business in the near future. However, I am of opinion that this view is myopic,

which is to the detriment of personal development and China’s overall growth in the long term.

Firstly, in terms of personal development, university is not a vocational training center despite the fact that a university diploma indicates graduates are more likely to find decent jobs. Instead, university is a place for personal cultivation and improvement. In universities, students will learn to find their real interests, perfect their personality, and form right outlooks toward the world. Furthermore, students will learn to gather, analyze, and evaluate information so that they can resolve problems in their lives. For those who are suspicious of the value of higher learning, to some extent, they can be regarded as plutolatry. They worship money and believe that money is everything in their lives.

Secondly, in terms of national growth, the advancement of a nation is characterized by its greatness of high education. In this sense, universities are the centers of research and academic exploration. Take the United States for instance. Among the top 100 universities in the world, the majority of them are located in the United States. The advancement of US high education is indicative of the fact that those universities produce the most Nobel Prize laureates in comparison with other countries. American universities also turn out to be a magnet for most smart students around the world. Those universities contribute tremendous share to the US’ growth through scientific and technological support. In China, if the belief that receiving college education is a waste of time and money can not be corrected in time, it is inevitable that China can only reap short-term GDP growth but will be deprived of opportunity to become a competitive international players in the long run, for the human resource will be drained eventually.

In sum, receiving college education will benefit both individual and the country. Indicative of the dire job market for college graduates is not the uselessness of college education. Instead, college education means we should study harder to make a full preparation for the future.
