如果是离校很久之成人申请者，推荐人可能很难就其学术能力给予评论。此时，可能提供申请个人能力与自我激励能力的看法，且说明其认为申请者可能应付学位课程的理由，其工作经历及推荐人对申请者之工作绩效也应包括在内。

1、写明推荐人与申请者的关系，申请者是谁，推荐人是申请者的什么人，是在什么时候，什么场合下认识申请者的，以及与申请者的熟悉程度。

2、推荐人对申请者的印象，尽量能用概况性地词语来评价申请者是怎样的一个人。

3、申请者的课堂及平时表现，做出的贡献及获得过的一些荣誉奖项等等。

1、推荐信的数量

准备推荐信的时候，建议每所学校准备三封。不同的学校对推荐信数量的要求不一样，有的要求一封，有的要求两封。为了准备齐全，事先准备三封一定是足够的了。

2、推荐人的选择

班主任老师或者辅导员，一定是推荐人的首选。因为他们是最了解学生以及和学生接触地最多的人。他们对于学生的评价，是最具有说服力的。

其他两封推荐信，应选择对申请者比较熟悉的老师。一些家长和学生认为，名校的'老师或者有名气的老师写的推荐信会更具有权威性，便找到一些其实并不认识申请者的老师们来给学生写推荐信。其实不然。招生官是想要通过推荐信来全面了解这名申请者，想要看到的是老师们真实的、客观的评价。如果推荐人并不熟悉，甚至根本不认识申请者，没有过接触，又怎么会了解申请者并给出最中肯的评价呢?

如果学生已经有了有意向的申请专业，可以找和这个专业相关的任课老师来写。比如有的学生想申请数学专业，就可以找高中或者大学的数学老师来给自己写推荐信。但是这个并不是一定的，有的专业和自己的课程并没有匹配，也不必要非要纠结于找一个和专业相关的老师。

1、当对申请者给出了评价的词语后，最好用1/2个具体的事例来证明。比如说推荐信中提到这位申请者是一个很好学好问的学生，那么就给出事例来证明这个学生是怎样好学好问的。真实、具体的事例才具有说服力。

2、从课内、课外两个维度来评价学生。现在的大学在选择申请者的时候，并不只看申请者的考试成绩。除了学习，招生官也很注重学生课外的发展。例如才艺或者实际操作能力、领导力等等。老师除了评价申请者的学习成绩，课程表现以外，还应适当地提及学生在课外是怎样的一个人。例如可以突出学生积极参加课外活动、文艺演出、志愿者服务，对某项才艺或技能有特别的爱好，又或者是在某个团体中突出的组织、领导能力等等。

3、三封推荐信要从不同的角度去评价申请者。这样是为了能让招生官全方位地了解学生，如果一封推荐信中提到了学生的某一方面的特点，那么在另一封推荐信中就尽量不要重复，尽量挑选别的点来进行评价。不同的推荐人反映申请者不同的特质，这样才能使推荐信发挥它的最大作用。
