庆历四年的春天，滕子京被降职到巴陵郡做太守。到了第二年，政事顺利，百姓和乐，各种荒废的事业都兴办起来了。于是重新修建岳阳楼，扩大它原有的规模，把唐代名家和当代人的诗赋刻在它上面。嘱托我写一篇文章来记述这件事情。
我观看那巴陵郡的美好景色，全在洞庭湖上。它连接着远处的山，吞吐长江的水流，浩浩荡荡，无边无际，一天里阴晴多变，气象千变万化。这就是岳阳楼的雄伟景象。然后前人的记述（已经）很详尽了。虽然如此，那么向北面通到巫峡，向南面直到潇水和湘水，降职的官吏和来往的诗人，大多在这里聚会，（他们)观赏自然景物而触发的感情大概会有所不同吧？

记：一种文体。可以写景、叙事，多为议论。但目的是为了抒发作者的情怀和抱负（阐述作者的某些观念）。
（1）选自《范文正公集》范仲淹（989-1052），字希文，死后谥号文正，世称范文正公，苏州吴县（现江苏省吴县）人，北宋时期政治家、军事家、文学家。岳阳楼在湖南岳阳西北的巴丘山下，楼高三层，下临洞庭湖，其前身是三国时期吴国都督鲁肃的阅兵台。唐玄宗开元四年（716），张说在阅兵台旧址建造楼阁，取名“岳阳楼”，常与文士们登楼赋诗。
