高中 英语新教材阅读课文题材较广泛、信息量较大、语言较地道。通过阅读教学,要使学生巩固和发展语言、文化背景知识,学会并运用阅读技巧,更好地促进听、说、读、写能力的发展,从而实现高中英语教学的主要目的“侧重培养阅读能力”、“为继续学习和运用英语切实打好基础”。课文阅读一般可以分为“pre-reading, during-reading, post-reading phases”(Brown,1994)。根据阅读教学理论,阅读过程是一个主动的、语言与思维相互作用的创造性地学习运用语言的过程(杨连瑞,1995)。据此,阅读的前两个阶段可以看作是对语言材料的初步感知和理解,而第三阶段则是对阅读理解效果的检查和对语言材料的巩固运用阶段。通过这一阶段的教学活动,要使学生全面理解课文,引导学生理解文章的篇章结构、思想内容,并归纳出语言规则及其用法,通过口笔头练习进行内化、迁移,从而使语言技能综合化,这是一个信息输出和反馈的过程。因此读后活动(post-reading activity)的设计组织是阅读教学的重点。笔者在教学教研实践中,遵循系统认知原理,既循序渐进,又注意练习活动形式的多样性,针对不同题材、体裁,设计组织有关读后活动,让学生实践,收到了较好的效果。 一、理解性活动在学生阅读文章后,通过一些理解性练习活动,引导学生克服词汇障碍,学习并操练有关阅读方法和技巧,检查学生的阅读理解效果,包括理解词汇意义、捕捉有关信息、理解篇章结构和有关深层含义等。在这一阶段除常用的问题设计、正误判断和选择性阅读理解题外,还可设计以下活动。1.词汇练习。 通过设计一些有关词汇方面的练习,使学生就部分生词或派生词进行大胆的猜测,探索有关重点词汇、结构的基本用法。可根据内容编制选择题、填空题、词义配对等。2.段落与大意配对。解答这一类阅读理解题,可帮助学生抓住文章的主题句或关键句,把握文章的概貌,培养学生快速摄入信息的能力。例如SEFC1A Lesson22“A new car factory”,可提供简单的大意,让学生说出相应的段落,或让学生划分段落并说出大意。Part 1 Introducing the report briefly.Part 2 Introducing the new car factory.Part 3 Introducing the results .3.笔记摘录(Note-taking)或填表(Form-filling)。通过这类练习活动,可使学生更具体全面地获取文章有关信息或细节,培养学生的信息处理能力。在教材中安排有这类练习活动,SEFC1BUnit21,SEFC2AUnit1,Unit3,Unit5,Unit6等,不过宜根据教学需要作些修改,灵活运用,使其真正为教学服务。 二、运用性活动在学生初步理解文章,并对阅读效果进行初步检查后,可组织安排一些运用性练习活动以引导学生就有关内容通过口笔头形式进行巩固操练、交际运用。这是学生运用知识、技能进行语言运用阶段,也是阅读和阅读教学的最终目的。 1.问题讨论。问题讨论这一活动形式几乎适用于所有课文。通过设计问题让学生讨论,要求用完整的句子来回答(口头或笔头)。这是一种常用的,也是有效的理解训练和表达训练题型。但在这阶段宜就文章的中心思想、作者的态度与观点、人物的性格、文章的隐含意义等来提问,以培养学生通过对已知的信息、知识进行推理判断,从而提高创造性思维能力。组织形式上可以通过a.学生问-学生答,b. 学生问-教师答, c. 教师问-学生答,鼓励学生质疑,深入理解,但不钻牛角尖。教师要根据语言材料设计或鼓励学生提一些综合性较强的讨论题,体现一定的推理性、概括性、评价性、发散性、延伸性等。如学习SEFC1A,Lesson 6 “Look carefully and learn ”后,可设计这样的问题“What does the writer want to tell us?”(概括性问题);学习SEFC1B Lesson 74-75“The secret is out”后,可提问“What kind of character can we see from the text?”(评价性问题);学习SEFC1B Lesson 69“The necklace”后,可通过发散性提问1.“What would happen if Mathilde hadn’t lost the necklace?”,2. “ How many endings of the story can you imagine ?” 等。通过问答进一步理解篇章内容,调动学生运用语言知识和技能进行语言实践。当然不论设计何种类型的问题,都应遵循以下原则:a.问题要与学生的智力水平相适应,并体现“最近发展区”原则;b.问题能激发学生的思维热情;c.问题有助于达成教学目标。2.复述。复述不仅有利于整体理解,也有利于整体运用,从而更好地贯彻语言教学的交际性原则。现代语言学的一个重大研究成果,就是把话语作为交际的单位,把教学从句子水平推进到篇章层面。在做复述活动时,既可进行听说练习,又可以培养写作能力。 复述可就课文整体,某一段落,某一事件、人物、地点等展开;教师可根据文章内容提供线索,如时间线索、图表、关键词、情节发展图等形式。此活动形式使用范围广,可以先口头,后笔头,是课文整体教学的一个重要方面。在教学中可结合不同的题材和体裁,选择一定的主线作为线索,供学生复述时参考。从教材文章的写作方式上看,一般以记叙文和说明文为主,记叙文可抓住时间线索或记叙文的六要素作为主要信息呈现。如SEFC1A Lesson 50 “Abraham Lincoln”一文,可按时间线索列表。As a boy 1809:1818:As a young man:1860:As President 1864:1865: 而SEFC1B Lesson 62 “Sao Paulo Fire”,可根据Time, Place, Damage, Cause, Rescuse等要素列表。说明文可采用定义法,数字比较法,图表法等作介绍。如学习SEFC2A Lesson26“Canada”时,可要求学生在阅读过程中理解这些数字所表达的相关含义。在复述时则可要求学生根据这些数字对加拿大的概况作表述。3.课文改写。它是在学生全面理解课文,扫除文中基本的语言障碍后,让学生充分利用课本提高口笔头语言表达能力和语言驾驭能力的有效途径。形式上可指导学生抓住主干和要旨,将课文缩写成简短的概要;或由一种体裁改写成另一种体裁;或根据课文内容进行部分的角色表演;或让学生发挥想象,根据已知的事实,将课文续写等。这些都是教学大纲中所要求达到的能力。如学习SEFC1B Lesson 69“The Necklace”一文后让学生改写成短文形式并续写;学习SEFC1B Lesson 82 “How Marx learned foreign languages”后,要求学生将文中的书信内容改写成马克思与恩格斯之间的对话;或让学生进行角色表演,由一学生充当记者就如何学习外语采访另一学生(马克思的扮演者)。 4.题型训练。可将课文内容编制成完形填空,短文改错或相关的书面表达题,让学生进行训练,这样语言形式操练和阅读理解活动有机结合,较好地体现出语言教学的整体性,有利于巩固、深化对语言材料的理解,提高正确使用语言的能力。 5.同步阅读。同步阅读活动在这里是指要求学生阅读与本单元课文相类似的题材、体裁的文章,或要求运用所学的阅读技巧阅读不同的文章或进行适量的泛读等。它具有一定的目的性,而不是盲目地添加阅读材料,加重学生的负担。章兼中、俞红珍曾指出:就整个教材提供的篇目和篇幅,远不能保证阅读的量。为此语言教学需广泛扩充阅读的渠道,以巩固、扩大词汇量及语言知识,培养和发展阅读技巧。从实践看,这方面工作往往做得不够。从和高考看,学生反映文章长句多,语言地道,即使没有生词或生词不多也较难理解。这不能不说阅读教学尚有潜力可挖。因此平时可选择一定量的难度相当的尽可能是“原汁原味”的文章供学生在课内外阅读,并可进行适量的课堂限时阅读,以扩大信息输入,巩固和扩大阅读教学的效果。 高中英语课文读后活动形式多样。如何紧扣课文科学设计组织以求实效,对广大教师来说是一项创造性的工作。我们要遵循英语教学规律并体现以学生为主体的教学思想,注意几个“结合”:在活动形式上,要结合课文特点和学生实际,有选择地灵活运用,不求面面俱到,要真正激发学生的阅读动机和兴趣,有利于培养良好的阅读习惯、技巧,提高阅读能力;在组织形式上,要注意个体活动与小组活动(pair work,group work等)、集体活动相结合,真正使学生参与,才能更好地学习运用阅读技巧;在内容要求上,要注意口笔头相结合,学生的知识、能力水平与语言能力要求相结合,语言规则学习与语言技能、能力培养相结合。要通过读后活动,切实培养学生运用英语进行交际的能力。 主要参考书目:1.Brown,H.Douglas.1994.
