考研英语写作的连贯性原则

语言的连贯与否是评价一篇文章优劣的标准。在一篇文章里,语言的连贯主要体现在句与句、段与段之间。上句要能很自然地带出下句,后句与前句呼应,形成句句相连,读起来一气呵成;就如同听一段优美的乐曲,中间是不能停顿的。同样,段与段之间也要相互呼应,不可各自独立、前段不接后段、后段不理前段,使文章缺乏整体性。

语言的连贯方法很多,有我们最常说到的过渡词(transitional words),也可以称为转折词,还有代词、同义词、近义词等许多成分。为了进一步了解英语语言连贯特点,我们先看下面的实例分析。

(一)了解连贯――实例分析

Directions:

A. Title: A Trip I Would Like to Take

B. Time limit: 40 minutes

C. Word limit: 120~150 words

D. Your composition must be written on the ANSWER SHEET.

这篇作文题目要求写“我所喜欢的旅行”,但这一旅行还没实现,是计划、打算或是愿望。如不清楚这一点,就有可能跑题。

请看一篇学生例文分析:

[“I have a dream one day, I can travel around China.” At that time I was only a little girl. Now I am an adult. I can turn it into reality. ] [I will begin my trip from our capital, Beijing. It is the center of politics, economy and culture. It is just a living history museum. The Great Wall, the Summer Palace, the Palace Museum…There are so many interests that I even cannot count all them out. ] [My first stop is Huhehaote, I want to see the grassland, to drink a cup of tea with milk, to listen to the wonderful tune played with matouqin.] [After that I will get on a train, leave for Jiuzhaigou. It is a beautiful place. There are a lot of trees, flowers and waterfalls, if I am lucky I will meet pandas. ] [Several days later, I will arrive in another ancient capital―Nanjing. I want to pay a visit to Zhong Shanling and Yu Huatai. ] [As we all know, Hang Zhou is very close to Nanjing. So I will choose Hang Zhou to be my next stop. I had been told that West Lake is very charming. It is a rarity of the great nature. It is always beautiful, moving and lovely. ] [Now I do not have much money. 这篇例文在语言和语法方面有些问题,但本节主要讲语言的连贯,所以,对其他问题不作评论。

这篇文章虽然只由一段组成,但其中可分为七个层次,以文中的括号为标志。

下面依次从连贯性角度进行修改。

第一个层次主要讲作者从小就想周游中国,现在是成人了,可以实现这个愿望。这个用了五句英文表达的层次,句与句之间的连贯不够好,如果修改一下,感觉就会好得多。

To travel around the country has long been my dream. 此句用不定式做主语,谓语为完成时,较好地概括了例文中前三句的内容。This dream is much more likely to be realized now than it would have been ten years ago, 此句中的This dream呼应上句中的my dream,这里的重复是句子上下连贯的方法之一。since I have grown up and have begun to earn my living. since是表示因果关系的转折词,起连接作用。此外,since带的句子内容比原句意义充实完整,表明我已经长大,而且已经自立了。使句子内容充实完整也是语义连贯的基础。第一层次可完整表述如下:

To travel around the country has long been my dream. This dream is much more likely to be realized now than it would have been ten years ago, since I have grown up and have begun to earn my living.

第二个层次是作者旅行的第一站,共写了五句话,但句与句之间缺乏连贯之意。这五句可以并为一句:For me, an ideal travel experience would begin in Beijing, known as the capital of China, where there are many places of historic interest and scenic beauty. 这句中的me与前面的I呼应,ideal travel experience与my dream to travel呼应,这里的代词、同义词或词组在起连贯作用。此外,known as过去分词短语,where非限定定语从句比原文中的单句使上下文连贯得更紧密。

第三个层次中的first stop显然不合适,因为根据全文分析这里应是第二站。再有,使用呼和浩特之前应提一下省份的名称,外国人也许更熟悉比较大一些的地名。原文为一句,现改为两句,为的是内容更加充实完整,使其更加连贯。

From Beijing I would cross the north part of the country to Inner Mongolia. In Huhehaote I would explore the grassland, taste milk tea and listen to folk music. 这个层次中的From Beijing…to Mongolia是承上启下,发挥连接作用的短语,即介词词组也起连贯作用。

第四个层次共四句话,但四句话间仍缺乏连贯性。让我们使用多种方法把它们合为一句:My next stop would be Jiuzhaigou, a place in Sichuan Province which is very attractive for its undisturbed nature covered with trees, flowers and water falls. 修改后句中的next是一承上启下的过渡词,连接了上下文。另外,九寨沟后面的同位语a place in Si Chuan Province,是必须要充实的内容,因为九寨沟毕竟是个太小的地方,用同位语比另写一句更加连贯。同位语后面还带出了一定语从句,这定语从句也比另写一单句连贯得多。

第五个层次的句式仍然单一不连贯,请看修改后的句子:

Having seen enough nature by this time, I would head east along the Yangtze River to Nanjing and Shanghai, for both cities are considered as a pair of shining pearls on the river.

句子开始的分词短语发挥了很好的连贯作用,这一作用是通过分词短语的形式总结归纳前面旅行的内容而实现的,因为去呼市和九寨沟都是为了欣赏自然景观。此外,句子中其他的词也发挥了黏合作用,如On the river与前面的.the Yangtze River呼应;a pair of shining pearls与both cities呼应,both cities 又与Nanjing and Shanghai呼应。这是一句连贯性非常好的句子。

第六个层次共五句话。原文中的As we all know…so等也有连贯作用,但是用得不够好。请看修改后的句子:Continuing south, I would visit Hang Zhou, a “paradise” on earth. Here I would go boating and take pictures in the beautiful West Lake. 文中的Continuing south 起承上启下作用,这一分词短语同上一层次的Having seen enough nature by this time功能一样。Hang Zhou与a “paradise”是同位语。

第七个层次请先看修改后的句子:At this time it would be necessary to count how much money I still have. If a tour of Guangdong Province were still possible, I would stop in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. But by this time my money would run low, there is only one place to end my trip―Tianjin, my home town. 修改后的句子又加了一些内容,这后加的内容完全是为后边的but作铺垫,使文章结束既不唐突、不给人以戛然而止的印象,又使人觉得此文作者对旅行意犹未尽,所以中间的铺垫用了虚拟语气。

综合以上实例分析,不难发现可以使句句相连的方法很多。

1.词、词组

(1)代词:

I,me,it(指dream)。

(2)同义词:

travel, an ideal travel experience, explore, head east, visit, a tour, my trip等。

(3)重复使用同一个词或词组:

my dream, this dream; to travel, an ideal travel; at this time, by this time; Beijing, from Beijing… to…等。

(4)使用过渡词:

since, here, next, but等。

(5)使用同位语:

Jiuzhaigou, a place…或Hangzhou, a paradise…或Tianjin, my home?town等。

2.使用句子连接上下文的方式

(1)从句:

At that time I was only a little girl. Now I am an adult. I can turn it into reality.

1.评分原则

考研短文写作的评分原则采用总体评分的原则。总体评分原则不是把短文的内容和

语言分开来计分,而是从内容和语言两个方面综合考虑。如果语言文字很好,但是内容不切题,会被评为零分;反之,如果内容切题,可是文字错误百出,语句不通,用词当,也不能得高分。与四、六级写作不同的是考研短文写作评分标准更加强调语言的规范性与条理性,更加强调文字的准确、连贯及句式的变化。

2.评分标准

1991年至短文评分标准都共同强调了五方面的标准。放在首位的是内容切题,其次是表达清楚,第三是文字连贯,接下来是句式有变化和语言要规范。达到这几项标准是考生夺取高分的保证。下面我们首先阅读以下三年的具体评分标准,然后分别简述这五项标准。

评分标准

本题以通篇分档计分,计分标准如下:

(1)15分一13分: 内容切题,包括图中说明“effect”的有关信息;清楚表达其内涵,文字连贯;句式有变化,句子结构和用词正确,文章长度符合要求。

(2)12分一10分: 内容切题,包括图中说明“effect”的有关信息;比较清楚地表达其内涵;文字基本连贯;句式有一定变化,句子结构和用词无重大错误,文章长度符合求。

(3)9分一7分: 内容切题,基本包括图中说明“effect”的有关信息;基本清楚地表达其内涵;句子结构和用词有少量错误,文章长度符合要求

(4)6分一4分: 内容基本切题,基本表达图中信息,语句可以理解,但有较多的句子结构和用词错误,文章长度基本条例要求。

(5)3分一1分: 基本按图写作,但只有少数句子可理解。

(6)0分: 文不切题,语句混乱,无法理解。

评分标准

(5)3分一1分: 基本按图画写作,但只有少数句子可理解。

(6)0分: 文不切题,语句混乱,无法理解。

(7)长度计分标准: 120词一150词:扣2分

90词一120词:扣5分

90词以下:最高分不超过6分

评分标准

各档评分标准如下:

(1)15分一13分: 内容符合要求,包括对各图的说明,对趋势的预测及理由,数字表达正确,语言流畅,句式变化多样,用词面宽,虽有个别不妥之处,仍表明作者语言基本功较好,表达能力较强,长度符合要求。

(2)12分一10分: 内容符合要求,包括对各图的说明,对趋势的预测及理由,数字表达正确,思想表达清楚,文字连贯,句式变化较多,结构与用词有少量一般性错误,长度符合要求。

(3)9分一7分: 内容符合要求,包括对各图的说明,对趋势的预测及理由,表达基本清楚,但结构与用词错误较多,数字表达有误,长度符合要求。

(4)6分一4分: 内容基本符合要求,语句尚可理解,但结构与用词错误多,有些是严重错误,数字表达错误,长度符合要求。

(5)3分一1分: 内容与本题要求部分有关,除事先备好但与要求不符的语句外,结构与用词错误多且严重,词不达意,条理不清,不成篇章,数字表达混乱。

(6)0分: 语句几乎无一正确,数字表达混乱,长度不合要求。套用事先备好的文章,但文不对题,不能给分。

1991-评分标准

各档评分标准如下:

(1)15分一13分: 内容切题,包括提纲的全部要点;表达清楚,文字连贯;句式有变化,句子结构和用词正确。

(2)12分一10分: 内容切题,包括提纲的全部要点;表达比较清楚,文字基本连贯3句式有一定变化,句子结构和用词无重大错误。

(3)9分一7分: 内容切题,基本包括提纲的要点;表达基本清楚;句子结构和用词有少量错误。

(4)6分一4分: 内容基本切题,语句可以理解,但有较多的`句子结构和用词错误。

(5)3分一1分: 基本按题意写作,只有少数句子可以理解。

(6)0分: 文不切题,语句混乱,无法理解。

仔细阅读以上评分标准,不难发现其评分标准是一致的,其中的不同只是因题型变化而出现的差异。1991年至19的评分标准由于题型基本保持不变,评分标准也基本一样。19是图表作文,在题目中还有附加要求,如包括图表的全部数字,预示烟草消费的趋势及说明其趋势上升或下降的原因,因而在评分标准中就明确要求考生在作文中涉及这三方面的内容。如没有写到,就会丢分。19的作文题目是一幅卡通画和一首打油诗,其评分标准与其他略有不同的是要写出图画的全部信息,并且要清楚地表达其内涵。

考研应用文写作命题原则

根据硕士研究生入学考试大纲规定,应用文写作部分在命题方面有以下原则:

1.应用文部分主要要求考生能写不同类型的应用文,包括私人和公务信函(主要有祝贺信、介绍信、邀请信、申请信、询问信、致谢信、约会信、道歉信、推荐信、投诉信)、备忘录、便笺等。应用文写作时,考生应能:

1) 做到语法、拼写、标点正确,用词恰当;

2) 遵循文章的特定文体格式;

3) 合理组织文章结构,使其内容统一、连贯;

4) 根据写作目的和特定读者,恰当选用语域。

2.考试形式:考生根据所给情景写出一篇约100词(标点符号不计算在内)的应用性短文,考生在答题卡2上作答。满分10分。

3.应用文的评分侧重在于信息点的覆盖和内容的组织、语言的准确性、格式和语域的恰当。对语法结构和词汇多样性的.要求将根据具体试题作调整。允许在作文中使用提示语中出现过的关键词,但使用提示语中出现过的词组或句子将被扣分。100词左右,文章长度不符合要求的酌情扣分。

第1段:图画描述  (共三句)

1-(1):总体描述图画:人物/动物/事物+动作+环境  or  人物+服装+表情  (一句)1-(2):图画细节描述       (通常一句,有时也可写两句)1-(3):对图画中的文字进行翻译  (一句,有时可省略这句)第2段:图画寓意阐释兼论证(共五句)

2-(1):主题句:点出图画寓意(一句)

2-(2)(3)(4):论证段(注意:既然前面提出了观点,随后就应有相对应的原因/解释/论证,不要犯考生易犯的有论点无论据的错误)(三句)论证段的思路:

【内容层面】论证的内容可以从如下角度选择其一a、谈背景:即问题或现象出现的政治/经济/文化/社会背景b、摆事实:即已经成为普遍社会现象的事实情况c、驳观点(欲扬先抑):先摆出与自己观点对立的他人观点,随和在反驳中提出自己观点(因为欲扬先抑是英文写作习惯)d、讲原因:即分析问题或现象出现的原因,最好给出2-3点 (注:王江涛在书上说“原因”是现在改卷老师最喜欢看到的角度,偶不置可否,大家可以多练练这个角度)e、论后果:即分析问题或现象导致的后果,最好利弊都写。

f、“象-义”对应(书上写的是“联系现实”,“象-义对应”是我自己发明的词,因为“联系现实”容易让我产生歧义):即阐释图画寓意时把图中每个事物和现实中的象征的涵义对象联系起来(例如写道“图画上的花朵象征着现在的少年儿童,温室象征着家长的溺爱”)备注:书上只列了五大角度,f点是单独列在后面的,但我认为这一点谈的也属于构思上的写作内容层面,所以就一起归进来了,

大家也要重点练习这点,因为只要涉及图画阐释的题都要写到这个内容。

【写作方法层面】可综合运用下面的论证方法(我打算每一种方法都积累几个相应的好句型,最终形成自己的句型模板):

1、因果论证(注意:英文的逻辑是前果后因,和中文刚好相反。从这个意义上说,每一段的首句应是主题句,即“结果”,后面的论证就是“原因)2、分类论证:如果在前述的写作内容上选择了d角度(讲原因),则最好在第2段写两到三点原因或例证,然后在第3段写两点建议,这样结构更严谨。

3、定义法:采用自问自答的设问形式,来引起阅卷者的注意(注:如果要用也最多一次)。例:What is idol worship? Idol worship is usually……4、解释法:即换个角度把上一句的意思再说一遍(注:如果要用也最多一次)    。例:In other words,……5、统计或事实:可以虚构一些统计数据或调查结果,来使文章有理有据。只要数据不夸张,能自圆其说即可。例:According to the recent survey/data/study/statistics by the Academyof Social Science 70% of……6、举例论证(最常用,不多说了)

7、比较和对比:比较两者的相同点或者对比两者不同点2-(5):小结:将2-(2)(3)(4)三句进行小结,与本段首句呼应。(一句)第3段:结论兼建议措施段 (共四句)

三、作文中的部分新颖表达及部分垃圾词汇的替代

作文中想要拿到高分,就必须有一些与众不同的词汇或表达方式,笔者在这里所说的“垃圾词汇”并没有贬低这些表达的意思,大家可以想象一个阅卷老师在阅几千份试卷的过程中就看到几千次相同表达,分数可想而知,所以如何取舍你懂的'。

A、认为(尽量避免的表达,以下例句同,不再重复说明:I think/I believe/As far as I am concerned)

针对考研英语作文的要求和特点,可以概括的得出一个总体法则:高分作文=打牢基础+妙用技巧

(一)打牢基础应从以下几方面着手:

1.首先要客观而清晰的对自己现阶段的真实英语水平有一个认知,以便能对症下药并合理的进行复习。

如果自己的英语基础十分薄弱,首先要攻克构成写作根基的单词和语法,从现在起至八月底必须拿下考研大纲词汇,对大纲词汇必须做到见到就能准确联系到其释义,而对其中的高频写作词汇更要做到熟练拼写,准确运用,当然在记忆单词时不能只孤立的记忆单词的汉语意思还要去消化吸收一些单词后给出的例句,以此达到通过例句巩固对单词的记忆并掌握怎样在语境中去运用单词;同时,如果对英语的遣词造句感到无从下手,这说明自己的语法知识比较欠缺,从现在起到8月底同时需要去找一本条理清楚,简单易懂的语法书进行学习,在看语法书时,侧重理解语法规则,关键消化每种语法规则对应的例句,最有效的方法是看到相应汉语例句,自己动手把它翻译成英文,在对照给出的英文找出差距;如果自己的语法基础还行,尤其是那些已经通过了大英六级的考生,可直接参照执行以下提供的复习计划,当然那些基础较薄弱的考生经过一段时间的强化复习后,也可借鉴这一复习计划:

(1)建议在现阶段每天抽出半小时进行语言表达能力训练,具体方法是可选用新概念第三册或第四册(根据自己的程度选定)或是其它英汉对照的经典范文,将其汉语译文翻译成英文,再对照原文,来逐渐学习地道,顺畅的英语表达方式;
