10. M: I don’t know if Steve likes the apartment or not.

W: He said he liked it, but he didn’t want to sign the contract.

Q: What can be concluded about Steve?

I am going to tell you about a sport: Capoeira. Capoeira came from Brazil where was started by the African slaves. They used it for entertainment and also to fight against their white masters. It is a kind of Kong Fu which is also like a dance. You need to be very fit and strong, and you should have good control of your body. You often have to use your hands to balance. Everyone sits around in a circle, singing and playing music, and two people fight in the center. To fight the other person, you kick with your feet. But nowadays, there is no contact. As soon as you see the other person’s hand or foot coming towards you, you have to move away quickly. You must be careful the other person doesn’t kick you. If the other person kicks you, then you lose. I have been doing Capoeira for three years. I have improved a lot since I first started and now I wear green belt. In the future I would like to become a trainer and teach other people about this beautiful sport.

Q11: Who first started Capoeira?

Q12: What is required if a man wants to do Capoeira.

Q13: When can a man be judged to lose in Capoeira?

As a hotel manager, I have to walk around and smile all the time. Everyday I arrive at the hotel at 7:30 a.m. Before I prepare for the daily operational meeting, I first review the night manager’s reports and catch up on the emails that come through over night. Then I check on breakfast, and then walk through the restaurant to say Hello to guests. At 9:00 a.m. there is the daily operational meeting. Staffs report on what has happened the night before and what needs to be cared for. At 9:45, I am very visible and always around the hotel meeting and greeting staff. I have to keep an eye on what is going on, everything from the temperature of the shower to the variety of food. And we have to bear in mind cultural differences. For example, the Japanese want a running bath and the Americans are fine just with a shower. At 1:00 p.m. I always eat with the different member of staff. This is a valuable way of finding out what is going on. From 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. there are different meetings concerning all the aspects of hotel operation. I try to get through all the work by 7:00 p.m.

Q14: What does the speaker do first after arriving at the hotel?

Q15: Which of the following details shows the speaker’s concern about cultural differences?

Q16: What does the passage mainly tell us?

D:Next patient, please.

P:Morning, doctor

D:It’s Mr. Gerald, doesn’t it?

P:That’s right

D:Is that GERALD?

P:Yes, it is.

D:Right. Now, what seems to be the trouble?

P:Well, I’ve had this awful flu and a terrible cough

D:I see, how long have you been feeling like this?

P:Oh, about 3 or 4 days I suppose.

D: Have you had a temperature?

P: It’s normal.

D: Ok, I’ll just look at your chest. Now, breathe then, and out slowly. And again. Good, that’s it.

P:Thank you.

D:Well. I’ll give you some cough mixture. Take one spoonful every four hours for the next five days.

P: Ok, doctor.

A:I don’t know what to read. Can you recommend anything?

B:Have you read a book by John Windom called WEB ?

A:I’ve just finished it.

B:No, I haven’t. what sort of book is it?

A:You know, John Windom writes science fiction stories. This one’s a novel set on a pacific island.

B:What’s it about then?

A:Well, the main characters are a man and a woman who joined a group hoping to start the perfect society.

B:I see, do they succeed?

A:No, it turns out that the island they go to is full of huge spiders. They are determined to destroy everything there including any people who come. But won’t tell you what happened next or you won’t want to read it.

B:Ok, I’ll give it a try. Thanks.。

This kind of water isn’t fit to drink.

The girl isn’t easy to get along with.

另外:be to blame(受谴责),be to rent(出租)也用主动形式表被动。

e.g: To finish the building in a month is difficult.

To do such things is foolish.

To see is to believe.

(1)It is/was +adj.+of sb. to do…

(2) It is +adj.+for sb.+to do…

It is easy / difficult / hard / foolish / unwise / right / wrong / unnecessary

(3) it is +a +名词+ to do...

It is a pity / a pleasure / a pleasant thing / one’s duty / an honor / a shame / a crime / no easy job… to do

It takes (sb.) some time / courage / patience …to do…

It requires courage / patience / hard work… to do…

It is probable for him to come to the meeting.(错)

It is possible for him to come to the meeting.

It is possible / probable that he will come to the meeting.

eg :My idea is to climb the mountain from the north.

Your mistake was not to write that letter.

What I would suggest is to start work at once.

1.prefer

prefer doing to talking

Which of these two dresses do you prefer?

I prerer to go to America for my fruther study.

Anne prefers me to replace her at the meeting.

3. How do they make use of it in their daily life?

5.Ever since middle school, my sister Wang Wei and I have dreamed about taking a great bike trip.

It is/has been+一段时间+since+一般过去时(从句中的动作不能延续)自从……

since then 自从那时至今 ever since 从那以后一直

6.persuade sb to do sth

= persuade sb into doing sth

7.After graduating fro college, we finally got the chance to take a bike trip.

8.It was my sister who first had the idea to cycle along the entire Mekong River from where it begins to where it ends.

It is/was…that/who 的用法归纳如下:

强调句型应避免使用when, where, which 等连词。

9.schedual for the trip

10.be fond of 喜欢,喜爱

Although she didn’t know the best way of getting to places, she insisted that she organize the trip properly.

She insisted that she didn’t tell a lie.

另外,还可以用insist on doing sth/ sth.

She insists on getting up early and playing her radio loudly她老是一大早起来把收音机音量开大。)

11.care about details

The only thing he cares about is money.

Once you have begin you must continue.

Once printed, the book will be very popular。

17.It becomes rapids as it passes through deep valleys, travelling across western Yunnan Province.

persuade

vt.

persuade sb. of sth.

persuade sb. to do sth.

persuade sb. into doing sth.

persuade sb. out of doing sth.

talk sb. into/out of doing sth.=reason sb. into/out of doing sth.

trick sb. into/out of doing sth.

urge sb. into/out of doing sth.

advise/persuade

用法上:advise可跟v.-ing形式作宾语,也可以接that-clause (that sb. should do),而persuade则不能。

I persuaded him of its truth.

We will persuade him to take the medicine.

We persuaded her into taking the job.

I persuaded my father out of smoking.

Why don't we go fishing at West lake? -Let's go! (D)

A. They are going to the Sun Park next week.

B. They will go to the Sun Park on a bus.

C. They are going to the Sun Park by car.

D. They will walk to the Sun Park this weekend. [20

They are going to the Sun Park by bus this weekend. (B)
