ask:

Describe a wedding you attended

You should say:

whose wedding it was

who was there

where it was

and explain how you felt at this wedding.

Sample answer:

One of my cousins got married and had a magnificent(华丽的) celebration. Nearly 100 hundred relatives and friends attended it and I was there all along the way.

There are many steps to follow during a typical Chinese wedding, like both families cover any manholes, drains or wells nearby the houses with red paper as a local tradition. But I always find most interesting the part of how the groom win his way to his lover.

The wedding ceremony was on the national day last year.Around 9 am, we, as the groom family, set a fleet of cars towards the bride house. When we arrive at the brides house, the groom, along with his parents, cousins, aunts and uncles, went to the brides door. The groom knocked the door several times, calling out for his wife, but the bride's mother won’t not open it until the groom calls, “Mama” and paid the bride's mother some money.

Even then, the bride remained locked in her room with the bride's maids. The maids demanded the groom proved his love before they would open the door. This included singing correctly some ordered romantic songs, and some were tricky. My cousin was not a pop song lover, so it was time to display my music skills. My try was passed as OK, thankfully. Eventually the bride came out and the groom lifted her up into the waiting car during everyone’s applause.

In the weddings I have attended, there have been a few Western elements, like white gowns and wedding vows, but overall, I would characterize the weddings as very much Chinese in both form and style. It is a mix of tradition, spectacle, prestige, showing off, and romance all in one.

1.A wedding is a ceremony where two people are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs(习惯)vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups(民族), religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding ceremonies involve an exchange of wedding vows(誓言) by the couple, presentation of a gift (offering, ring(s), symbolic(象征性)item, flowers, money), and a public proclamation(宣告) of marriage by an authority figure. Special wedding garments(服装)are often worn, and the ceremony is sometimes followed by a wedding reception. Music, poetry, prayers or readings from religious texts or literature are also commonly incorporated into the ceremony.

2.The use of a wedding ring has long been part of religious weddings in Europe and America, but the origin of the tradition is unclear. One possibility is the Roman belief in the Vena Amoris, which was believed to be a blood vessel that ran from the fourth finger (ring finger) directly to the heart, thus when a couple wore rings on this finger their hearts were connected. Historian Vicki Howard points out that the belief in the “ancient” quality of the practice is most likely a modern invention. “Double ring” ceremonies are also a modern practice, a groom's wedding band not appearing in the United States until the early 20th century.

3.The wedding ceremony is often followed by wedding reception or a wedding breakfast, in which the rituals may include speeches from the groom, best man(伴郎), father of the bride and possibly the bride, the newlyweds' first dance as a couple, and the cutting of an elegant(漂亮的) wedding cake.

关于wedding的问题可以出现在雅思口语的任何一部分,在第一部分中,有过这样的考题,what’s the typical Chinese wedding like? What do people usually wear in the wedding?

Have you ever been to a wedding celebration?

What happens at a wedding celebration in China?

Do people eat, drink and dance at wedding celebrations in China?

Describe a wedding you attended.

You should say:

- whose wedding it was

- who was there

- where it was

and explain how you felt at this wedding

I think the most romantic part was the time when the newlyweds were taking the wedding vows. The groom said to the bride, “I love three things in the world, the sun, the moon and you, the sun for the day, the moon for the night and you forever.” And the bride said to the groom, “To the world, you might be just one person, but to me, you are my whole world.” Those words touched everybody’s heart.

Ok, well I've actually been to quite a few weddings, because I'm now at the age when a lot of my friends are starting to get married, so it was kind of difficult choosing which one to describe, but I guess probably the easiest for me to talk about would be the most recent one I went to, which was that of a neighbour of mine.

Also, what I should probably make clear to you first, though, is that weddings here in China tend to just involve the wedding reception, as you may know, without the signing of marriage documents, which is usually done in private several months before the wedding, so it's just the reception which I'm gonna talk about.

And, as for who was there, well, I couldn't tell you everyone, because there were absolutely loads of people, you know, the hall was pretty packed, so my guess would be that there were probably something like 250 to 300 guests, and if I'm not mistaken, it seemed to be that the majority were friends and relatives of the bride and groom, although I also noticed that they had invited quite a few of their colleagues from work as well, because one of them, who I think was her boss, went up on stage to make a speech at some point.

Anyway, with regard to where the wedding was held, well, it was actually in a small city called Zhuji, which is about an hour's drive just to the south east of Hangzhou, because that's where the bride comes from, and the reception itself was held in quite a nice-looking hotel, which was easy to spot because it was about 10 times higher than all the buildings around it!

So regarding how I felt at the wedding, well, to put it simply, it was a really wonderful wedding, and there were some parts of it that moved me quite a lot, such as when the bride broke down in tears when she was on stage thanking her parents for all the support they had given her. It was also really clear to see how much the bride and groom loved each other, as they couldn't take their eyes off each other the whole evening, so I was really happy for them and was glad that I made it to their wedding.

That's pretty much it, I think, so thanks a lot for listening.

Why do many people spend a lot of money on wedding celebrations?

Why do you think people spend a lot of money on their wedding?

Which would you prefer, a modern-style wedding or a traditional-style wedding? Why?

Do you know of any differences between weddings in China and those in the West?

One of the memorable wedding ceremonies that I attended and enjoyed was the wedding party of my cousin. It was in the year and I was 21 years old at that time. I can recall that it was mid-summer and I took 4 days leave from my university to attend the program.

My cousin Ruby got married and she was the daughter of my eldest maternal uncle. Among our cousins she was the eldest and she was 24 years old when she got married to a doctor. I was in the wedding from the very beginning: shopping till the departure of the bride to her father-in-laws house. The whole house was decorated, we celebrated a ceremony 3 days long, lots of relatives and neighbors came to congratulate the bride and they brought some gifts for her as well. The host prepared several delicious dishes and sweets and everyone wear new and traditional dresses. Every one enjoyed, sang and danced, the whole program was recorded and every one cried when the bride left the house.

Yes that was a typical wedding that followed the general traditions and customs. It was nothing different from the traditional marriages that are generally performed in most of the part of the country except some minor tribes and society. If fact we enjoyed the wedding because a typical marriage ceremony in our country has lots of interesting and enjoyable parts that people celebrates with boundless joys. We mostly followed the customs and thoroughly enjoyed the whole wedding program.

1. Listen to yourself.

2. Slow down.

3. Picture it.

4. Get physical.

你发this, thank, they,和little, wool等单词困难吗?

5. Watch yourself.

6. Copy the experts.

7. Practice makes perfect.

8. Find a language buddy.

9. Be poetic.

10. Sing a song.

Describe a wedding that you have attended.

You should say:

whose wedding it was

who was there

what happened

and explain how you felt.

Today, I’m going to share with you a wedding of my friend that I attended. Last month, I received a wedding invitation from my old friend from primary school. The wedding was held at the beginning of April. We have been close to each other for over 15 years, therefore, I definitely wanted to attend at all costs, due to the fact that we hadn’t had a chance to get together for ages.

Her wedding ceremony took place at The Sum Villa, located near West Lake. It was decorated impressively with a lot of lights, candles and flowers around the room. There were three glamorous wedding photo albums, showing tables right at the center of the official gate. The principal colors were likely to be white and violet, so all the guests were requested to wear clothes with one or both of these colors. Personally, I wore a white dress with small accessories.

It was meant to be a casual wedding, which I had never attended before. It turned out to be refreshingly informal. One of the best moments that really touched me was when the bridegroom sang a song for the bride and all the guests sang along with him. Also, he made a photo clip by himself marking their 4-year romance, to show to everyone in the room. It was no surprise that everyone clapped their hands and cheered them. Of course, I was no exception.

It was also a good chance to catch up with my old friends and we all had a great time. We definitely made the most of the occasion and took a lot of pictures with the bride and the bridegroom. I gave my friend a gift to celebrate her wedding day. I had given much thought to my wedding present when I was choosing it, and I wished her lots of happiness for the future.

Well, I've been to countless wedding ceremonies so far, but the most memorable one ismy cousin's wedding, which is not a traditional one that is held in a restaurant or a church, buton a secluded beach in Bali. It was actually a destination wedding and only close friends andfamily members were invited. The wedding celebrations went like a dream, I mean, the azuresky, the crystal clear water, the soothing sound of the waves, the soft sand, everything! Andthe reception was sweet as well. I can see that the wedding planner must have put a lot ofthoughts in it. The bride looked gorgeous in that fancy wedding dress, and my cousin wasdrop-dead handsome, so you see, that wedding was picture-perfect! And my uncle was veryoriginal when he made his speech. He didn't say that I wish you a happy marriage or youshould start a family soon, like other parents would do. Instead, he shared his opinion onmarriage, and I quote: Life is a long a bumpy journey, and you guys should hold each other'shands and get through this together. Marriage is not a fairy tale. There will be imperfections. Atsome point in your life, you might have a fight or disagreement, but you must never stoploving each other and tolerate each other. There was soft background music while he wasdoing this, which made it incredibly touching, I could see tears welling up in the couple's eyes.

So, I guess it's fair to say that wedding is the best one I've ever been to, and I hope someday, I could have one just like that.

I was told that a girl in a wedding dress was the most gorgeous, and that's true. I've neverseen my sister as beautiful as she was that day. My father gave her away to my brother-in-law,and they exchanged vows and wedding rings, just like what I'd seen in romantic movies. Mymom was moved to tears, and I believe that was a mixed feeling for her, but mostly happytears.

And the reception was unique as well. It was an all-you-can-eat buffet. I think it was agood way for people to mingle. During the dinner, my brother-in-law proposed a toast and gavea speech. I can't remember exactly what he said, but the general idea was how lucky it was tomeet my sister and have her as his wife. He has a great sense of humor, so although what hesaid was really touching, he managed to make everybody laugh. I was so happy for my sister. The memory is so fresh as if it happened yesterday.

1)着装得体整洁,面对考官彬彬有礼,侃侃而谈,注重交流;

8)考官分析大家口语的问题是:most of you think your oral english is better than it really is.

Questions:

when do people (usually) get married in your country?

Explanations:

For this question, I think it will be very easy for our Chinese students because you are just in the age of talking about the love and marriage. Actually, when we talk this topic in Chinese, it will be very simple and we may last our talking to the whole afternoon or even the whole day. However, it SEEMS so difficult for us to talk in English. The reason is very simple, Chinese is our mother tongue, so we need not think how to talk it correctly with perfect pronunciation or precise grammar. Actually, just as I said above, take it easy. Just as when you are talking in Chinese!

Clues:

When we talk in Chinese, we may say that it is very early in ancient time but too late in the modern time, especially in the big and well-developed cities because heavily loaded by the great pressure from work, they have so limited time to think about the marriage. Besides, along with the rapid expansion of the population, the government established a series of policies to encourage the late marriage…….

So, through the Chinese sayings, we can easily conclude the clues as following:

This is just the clues used in your oral English for this topic for reference. Remember, take it easy! Just chatting is OK!

In late September, Sheng Zuxing and her fiance Zhang Ping married in front of about 60 guests in Tianjin, a port city southeast of Beijing.

Like many Western weddings, Sheng wore a flowing white gown, had a ring bearer and a bridesmaid, and hired a wedding planner — traditions that a decade ago, were mostly unseen in the Middle Kingdom.

The couple also incorporated traditional Chinese elements, such as receiving hongbao (red envelopes filled with money) from guests, setting off firecrackers as they arrived at the wedding venue. They kept another very popular traditional element — not allowing the groom to see his bride until he gave “bribes” to the bride’s relatives, and answered questions from her such as where they first met and where they ate their first meal together.

What’s more, China has put its own mark on some Western traditions, such as the photo shoot. Unlike Western weddings, where brides and grooms take pictures on the day of the wedding, it’s popular for couples in China to pay for day-long photo sessions — sometimes in different countries — prior to the ceremony.

While Western wedding traditions, such as having a bridal party, are working their way into Chinese ceremonies, there are still traditions that remain decidedly Chinese.

Instead of a gift list, Chinese couples prefer hongbao and venue availability doesn’t dictate wedding dates. Rather, Chinese couples will still choose an auspicious date — often by enlisting the help of a fortune-teller — regardless of if the day is a Monday or a Saturday. The time of a wedding also differs; in northern China, most weddings are morning affairs that are done by noon, while south of Shanghai weddings tend to take place in the afternoon and evening.

Every bride in China wants to walk down an aisle in a white dress,Brides are inspired by what they see in the West.

As Sheng left the restaurant at her wedding, where her guests dined on plate after plate of fish, ribs, vegetables and soup, she wore her third dress of the day, a flowing red tulle skirt with a traditional qipao top. “I’m very happy,” she said as she looked at the new ring on her finger. “It was so beautiful.”

At traditional Chinese weddings, the tea ceremony is the equivalent of an exchange of vows at a Western wedding ceremony. This ritual is still practiced widely among rural Chinese, however young people in larger cities, as well as in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, tend to practice a combination of Western style of marriage together with the Tea Ceremony.

When the bride leaves her home with the groom to his house, a “Good Luck Woman” will hold a red umbrella over her head, meaning “raise the bark, spread the leaves.” This “good luck woman” should be someone who is blessed with a good marriage, healthy children and husband and living parents. Other relatives will scatter rice, red bean and green bean in front of her. The red umbrella protects the bride from evil spirit, and the rice and beans are to attract the attention of the gold chicken.[citation needed]

Newlyweds kneel in front of parents presenting tea. A Good Luck Woman making the tea says auspicious phrases to bless the family. Newlyweds also present tea to each other, raising the tea cups high to show respect before presenting to each other.

Those who receive the tea usually give the bride gifts such as jewelry or red envelope.

Tea Ceremony is an official ritual to introduce the newlyweds to each other's family, and it's a way for newlyweds to show respect and appreciation to their parents. The newlyweds kneel in front of their parents, serving tea to both side of parents, as well as elder close relatives. Parents give their words of blessing and gifts to the newlyweds. During tea presentation, a “Good Luck Woman” would say auspicious phrases to bless the newlyweds and the parents. These auspicious words of blessing are designed to bless and amuse the family and make the occasion filled with fun and joy.
